Modern ceramic art finds its roots in the mid-1960s when ceramic artists acquired related concepts and techniques from Europe, Japan, the US, and others, and experimented on the use of glaze for creative works. This helps galvanize the trend of ceramic creation.
Taiwan’s modern ceramic art development can be explored mainly in two aspects. One is the breakthrough in the appearance of jars, pots and other household containers, and the other is the development of various kinds of glaze for their effects. Varied glaze colors and rustic clay are highly prized. This, along with the integration of the artist’s personal characteristics, has created the elegance and exuberance of modern ceramic art.
Mr. Cai Rong-Yu has long been committed to ceramic creation and research. His works are artistic, unique and can represent regional cultures, thus meeting the folk art certification standards. Moreover, they represent a breakthrough in the existing framework of ceramic art by surmounting traditional styles in design, material and underlying concepts. They are thus worth preserving for posterity.
