Wufeng Lin Family Mansion and Garden
The building cluster of Wufeng Lin Family comprises three portions: the upper house, lower house and Laiyuan. The upper house consists of Tower of Prospective Fragrance, The Hibiscus-Mirror Studio, Nourishment Orchard and New House. The Tower of Prospective Fragrance is the where the icon of Lin Family’s upper house where the representative of the Lin Family and his family lived, and the second building is the residence of Lin Hsien-tang. The Hibiscus-Mirror Studio is a Sanheyuan constructed using red tiles and earthen bricks. It was used as a private school. The New House is the residence of Lin Wen-feng and is family, while the Nourishment Orchard was used as the barn and guestroom for the upper house.
The lower house was built by Lin Chao-tung, son of Lin Wen-cha in the first year of Tongzhi Period during the Qing Dynasty (1862), consisting of Residence of the Palace Guard, Hall of Large Flowers, Two-Roomed House and Grass House. In particular, Residence of the Palace Guard and Hall of Large Flowers are the most spectacular. The door gods of the Residence of the Palace Guard and paintings on the purlins were completed during the Qing Dynasty. Hall of Large Flowers was a banquet venue for the Lin Family, adopting a layout of three halls and five spans. There is a stage in the third hall with octagonal dome ceiling on top and the roof is adorned with cornices that emanate Fuzhou-style. The pavilion at the main hall consists of curved cornices and carved white wooden structures to accentuate its uniqueness, opulence and grandeur.
Scholar Lin Wen-chin constructed Laiyuan for his parents, and it consists of Five-Cassia Tower, Flying Goblet Drunken Moon Pavilion, Lychee Isle, Lin Clan Ancestral Cemetery and Oak Poetry Society 20th Anniversary Monument etc.
